About Us
Climate change, recognized as the 13th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), poses the most significant threat to global development, disrupting fundamental human needs such as food, water, clean air, and safe living environments. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has identified human activity as the primary driver of greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to rising global temperatures and profound changes to the Earth’s climate. These adverse effects, highlighted in the Rio+20 declaration, "The Future We Want," are being felt across all nations. In light of this, raising awareness, particularly among the younger generation, is essential to strengthen efforts against environmental degradation and global warming.
Young people are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and require targeted educational initiatives to enhance their knowledge, skills, and competencies. Through sustainable living, environmental preservation initiatives, and active participation in policymaking and civil society, youth can play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges. GreenRoom has been designed to support this mission by employing innovative methodologies, particularly Game-Based Learning (GBL), as a means of empowering young people to combat climate change and foster eco-conscious behaviors.
At the heart of the project is the “Green Escape Room,” a unique and interactive platform that aims to raise awareness about climate change in an engaging and impactful way. This digital game guides participants through rooms and pathways, offering challenges and questions on critical topics such as air and subsoil pollution, climate change, recycling, and circular economy practices. Players must solve the problems presented in each room, using information collected throughout the game to progress. This approach not only provides a dynamic learning experience but also inspires critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving skills. By presenting complex environmental concepts in an entertaining format, the Green Escape Room motivates young participants to learn and reflect on their role in fostering a sustainable future.
GreenRoom’s overarching aim is to address three key audiences. Youth workers are a primary focus, as the project seeks to enhance their professional development by equipping them with tools to integrate game-based learning into their work. These individuals are essential in engaging today’s digitally focused youth, capturing their interest, and ensuring meaningful learning outcomes. They will be trained to adapt and use the Green Escape Room, enabling them to inspire young people through innovative educational practices.
Youth, as the ultimate beneficiaries, are at the core of GreenRoom’s vision. The project aspires to empower them to become informed consumers and active participants in addressing climate change. By engaging with the Green Escape Room, young people gain knowledge, skills, and values critical to promoting sustainability within their communities. They are positioned as ambassadors for this transformative approach, championing informed consumption and eco-friendly practices.
In addition to individuals, GreenRoom extends its impact to organizations working in youth development and agriculture. The project fosters connections and partnerships, leveraging game-based learning to build relationships, facilitate dialogue, and inspire collective action on environmental issues. Through a focus on sustainable food consumption and urban farming, it highlights innovative solutions to climate challenges and promotes practical applications of sustainability in everyday life.
The broader vision of GreenRoom is to empower youth workers and organizations to embrace game-based learning as a tool for engaging, educating, and inspiring young people. By doing so, the project contributes to the cultivation of responsible, informed citizens who prioritize social justice, equity, and economic development while actively participating in efforts to restore the planet’s natural balance.
GreenRoom also seeks to bridge gaps between policy, research, and practice by promoting better understanding and recognition of youth policies. It underscores the value of informal and non-formal learning, fostering intercultural dialogue and setting high standards for professional ethics and competencies among youth workers.
Ultimately, the project envisions a future in which youth are empowered to lead the fight against climate change, actively contributing to reversing global warming and restoring the Earth’s natural carbon cycle. By combining education, innovation, and community engagement, GreenRoom aims to inspire a generation of leaders committed to environmental sustainability and the preservation of our planet.
